“Yes, but it needed it. It was an absolute shit show Vi, literally!”

“Are you? Are you laughing?” Caitlyn sounded almost amused, maybe.

“Well, yeah. I didn’t think I’d ever hear you swear and say my name like that, Cu—” throat cleared, “Caitlyn.”

Her business partner sighed, “Goodbye Vi. Please tell me when the roof is finished, I’ll be by to take measurements for the rooms and furnishings later this week
” Vi almost hung up the phone but then her colleague —partner? Boss? Definitely her boss, made a funny little humming noise quickly followed by a rather upbeat, “Oh! How do you feel about forest green?”

“Uhhh
am I supposed to feel something for a color?”

While creating homes for other families, Caitlyn and Vi learn that building a family isn't always an easy endeavor. They’ll discover that some things simply cannot be fixed, but can be endured; together.

Lieutenant Vi "Viper" Vanderson grew up with flight practically in her veins and the stars fed to her for breakfast. She'd spent countless hours with Vander learning everything she could from the seasoned marine. And when it came time for her ol’ man to finally take a command position, he'd given Vi his prized ship and wished her and her sister well.

It’s been more than ten years since she first learned to fly, and Vi’s spent the last three running from her own calling, but the universe has other plans for the best pilot in the fleet.

Approaching her thirtieth birthday, this decade is stacked up to be no different than the last; brimming with impossible challenges and an even bigger thorn in her side: a new commanding officer onboard New Terra's finest battleship, The Atlas.

Lieutenant Commander Caitlyn Fuckin’ Kiramman.

If I can hold you tonight
And keep you so safe armor falls aside
If I can hold, baby, you tonight I doubt it's going to change what we are inside

The rock star even turned around walking backwards at the end of her path, nearly running into a security guard, if only so that she could keep facing her —the spindly awkward music critic— until the doors finally shut behind them.

It’s a Rock Band AU where
Caitlyn is fine
Vi is very fine
and the rock band fuckin’ rocks!

Vi recounts what happened in the aftermath of the attack on the council chambers

On the third day we finally made it to her house after nights on uncomfortable hospital chairs and when we crossed the threshold she nearly collapsed. She had let the nurses help her out of her blood soaked and paint splattered clothes at the hospital and walk her into the small shower there, and I couldn’t watch. I couldn’t bear to see her so broken. And yet she offered a smile when she stepped back out. It wasn’t one that met her eyes, but it was a hint of hope, and I returned it.

She asked me to stay. I still don’t know why she wanted some stranger with her then, a former inmate, someone that had caused so much damage. I thought maybe it was because she didn’t have anyone else. And the truth was I no longer had anyone either. And for some reason we were drawn to each other and I wanted to keep her, maybe it was greedy but she seemed to want me just the same.

Nurse Caitlyn Kiramman tends to her new patient, who is not who she appears to be.

Years of training and even more years of therapy had taught her that panic wasn’t going to help anyone. But this wasn’t good, this wasn’t fucking good.

Her mind still shrouded in darkness, listening to muffled voices approach that she didn’t know, in a room that wasn’t her own. Though the room she’d been staying in for several months now wasn’t her own either. She could hear the voices quiet once more as a pair of footsteps scampered away. Now with only the faint beeping of the machine near her ear to keep her tethered to reality. She persisted to will herself to breathe, just breathe.
